         WELCOME TO COMPUTERS!

(Please forgive the mess, I'm still working on this page.)

HELLO!

Just a little information to get started:

I teach computers at Discovery and wanted to let you know that there are a few websites that your student can log into while we are doing the digital learning.

2nd Grade though 5th Grade Students have been using Typing.com to learn the basics about home row keys and proper posture.  Your student should know their login & password info for this site, but if for any reason they don't please don't hesitate to reach out to me on my email and I will reply as soon as I see it.  Their login on this site is generally their "firstnamelastname" (no spaces and no periods in between) and their password is their 5 digit student id number (the same as their AR number but without the 3 zeros at the end).  Some students may have a slightly different login but, again, they should know this already.  The Discovery Weebly page has the link on it under 'More', then 'Keyboarding'. There are also other keyboarding games they can play afterwards if they want.

I need the kids to be completing their beginner lessons and starting the Intermediate lessons so they stay on track for the year.  Usually 15 minutes a day, 2-3 days a week will work to help them remember without falling behind.

By the end of 5th grade they should be able to type a short, grade level appropriate passage at 25 words per minute with no more than 2 mistakes.

4th grade is 20 wpm, and 3rd grade is 15 wpm. 2nd grade does not have a standard set for WPM but they should be around 10 wpm and practicing proper hand placement and posture.

1st Grade Students have been using Roomrecess.com and going into the "Lab" section, Kidz Type, and DanceMat Typing.  In Room Recess I've had them working on the different typing games just to get them acquainted with where the letters are on the keyboard.

If you go to Discoveryfoxes.weebly.com, go to 'More', then scroll down to Keyboarding, the link for Room Recess, DanceMat, & Kids Type are all there.  There are also various other websites they can play on aferwards if they want.

I know we’re all trying to get the hang of things right now.  I have two kids at Discovery also and I know I am learning A LOT throughout this process too, haha.  For the next week, if anything, while your student is doing their normal classwork from their teacher online and if they have writing assignments or anything they are typing out, please reinforce that they use their home row keys and sit up straight and tall.

I miss each and every one of your kids and have really enjoyed being able to get to know them the last couple years in PE & now Computers!

Thanks so much for being so amazing and stepping up while we navigate this new terrain for now!
